We are sorry to announce the cancellation of the Mad Robin Ball scheduled for June 13, 2020. As you might expect, this is due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected us all. The Mad Robin Committee is working on plans for the next Mad Robin Ball, currently scheduled for June 12, 2021.
We have offered all 2020 staff full payment of their fees for the ball and workshop in recognition of their commitment to providing us a delightful dance experience and the hardship this pandemic is causing them. Many of you answered our call for donations to support this, and we were overwhelmed with the response: over $1100 in 10 days. These funds have been passed on to our staff and to NBCDS to support local musicians and callers. We also encourage you to support our musicians by purchasing their recordings and tune-books from Larry's website and Eden's website.
Though we cannot deliver a ball this year, we provide for your fantasy pleasure the program and staff details we had hoped to offer. With any luck, we will be able to bring the same staff together for a future ball.
Our dancing master this year was to be local favorite Alan Winston, known for his fine calling and choreography. Our musicians for the ball included Eden MacAdam-Somer and Larry Unger of the east coast band Notorious, joined by Mad Robin veteran Charlie Hancock on accordian. It's been way too long since Eden and Larry played for our BACDS English weeks, so we look forward to introducing them to a new generation of dancers. Larry is responsible for many of our favorite waltz and dance tunes, including some that inspired Alan Winston to compose dances.
Following the Saturday afternoon workshop and evening ball, we had planned to continue Sunday with a potluck brunch and special Sebastopol dance to make it a full weekend of fun.
Mad Robin is an English Country Dance Ball organized by the English dance group in Sebastopol and sponsored by the North Bay Country Dance Society. A chance to dress up, meet new dancers, explore Sonoma County and dance to wonderful live music in a grand old ballroom. We hope to see you at the next Mad Robin Ball!
